The photographs in this section reflect the early attempts of Fenech's keen interest in photography during the time he left painting to follow the fascinating world of image making. His main interest in these early beginnings with a camera was to record the redolent Maltese lifestyles during the late 70s, 80s and early 90s. This is a time when big changes were happening in the Maltese socio economical environment as Malta became a Republic (1975) soon after it gained independence from the British in 1964. Fenech soon became aware of the waning lifestyle and turned his lens to document the very ordinary people in towns and villages in Malta and Gozo. The early results of this documentary where exhibited at the Galleria Fenici in Valletta, his first solo exhibition in 1982.
